STEM fields across the country suffer from a lack of inclusion. The graduate students in our departments (Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Entomology, and the School of Integrative Plant Science) are seeking to change this by hosting a preview event for underrepresented students. In reaching out to those who have historically been ignored by our fields, we hope to make our scientific communities better reflections of our society and ourselves.
This year, we are proud to host our second annual Diversity and Inclusion Preview Weekend in the spring of 2018. This preview weekend is intended to introduce attendees to our research programs the year before they apply to graduate school. This event is separate from our departmental applications for admission (if you plan to apply to graduate school at Cornell this year, click here).
If you identify as an underrepresented minority student (Black/African American, Latina/o or Hispanic, Native American, Pacific Islander, or first generation college student), or you inhabit another axis of minority status (e.g. LGBTQIA, disabled persons, low income), this event is for you.
Application Deadline: Our application for spring 2018 is now closed. Please check back next year!
Preview Weekend Dates: March 8-11, 2018
We will cover up to $600 in travel expenses for participants, as well as housing and meals during the weekend.
Cornell University is located in central New York State, in the Finger Lakes Region. As a participant, you will get to know our departments and our campus, and get a taste of what life as a graduate student is like.
